Men’s Tennis Bested by FDU-Florham, 6-1

MADISON, N.J. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team accompanied the women's tennis team to New Jersey this afternoon competing against FDU-Florham. The Valiants were overpowered by the Devils resulting in the Valiants overall record showing 2-4 while conference play awaits.

With both teams only competing with five member squads, the doubles matches were competing for two overall points instead of one collective point. With that being said, both points were awarded to FDU-Florham with both the Valiants falling in both doubles matches. Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) resided on the No. 1 court where they were defeated by Ronald Duval and Mathew Emery 6-2. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) took over the No. 2 flight as they dropped to Kelvin Liwag and Nick Weglinkski, 6-3. Heading into singles play, the Devils lead 2-0.

Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) finished first for the Valiants on the No. 4 court. He was outplayed by Weglinski 6-1, 6-0. The following Valiant to finish was Alcala who was defeated by Liwag 6-3, 6-1. With these results, FDU-Florham now led the contest 4-0 with three matches still competing. The next match to finish took place on the No. 1 court. Uitterhoeve notched the only point for Manhattanville with his match against Emery. He secured his win 7-5, 6-1. Guzman was the following Valiants to contest as he fell short bringing his second set to a tiebreaker. Duval of the Devils defeated Guzman 6-0, 7-6, winning the tiebreaker 7-5. Curtin was the final match of the contest to finish as he took a game in each set from Chase Miller as he reigned victorious 6-1, 6-1.

Manhattanville closed out their match bested by the Devils, 6-1.
