Men’s Tennis Drops in Senior Day Match to MSM, 5-2

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team welcomed back Griffin Forberg (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) for Senior Day as the Valiants took on Mount Saint Mary for a Skyline Conference tilt. The Valiants were taken down by the Knights in a 5-2 decision, falling to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

Forberg returned to campus after graduating following the conclusion of the Fall 2024 semester. The Fairfield native was welcomed back to the courts by his teammates for a prematch ceremony in recognition of his play for the team during his two years at Manhattanville.

Heading into the match's action, Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) easily handled Luke Bayless and John Paul Corini 6-0 in top doubles action. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) were unable to match their teammates' success over on court two, falling to Sean Watson and Marco Collarelli 2-6. With the Knights taking the third doubles draw by default, Manhattanville was in a 1-0 hole heading into singles.

The Knights automatically took a 2-0 lead with Mahttanville unable to field a player for No. 6 singles. John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) competed on the No. 5 court where he fumbled against Dylan Stackpole 6-2, 6-2. Uitterhoeve took over on the No. 1 court defeated his opponent, Baylis, in straight sets and games 6-0, 6-0. The following match to finish took place on the No. 4 court where Von Brook came up short against Collarelli 6-1, 6-0. Guzman secured the final point for the Valiants finishing next on the No. 2 flight. Guzman defeated Corrini 6-3, 6-1. With one final match remaining the score stood tall with the Knights leading 4-2. The match concluded with Alcala falling to Watson 6-4, 6-2.
