Men’s Tennis Unable to Overcome Purchase, 7-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University Tennis team traveled down the road to take on Purchase College this afternoon in hopes of getting a conference win under their record. The Panthers took control demonstrating a dominating performance defeating the Valiants, 7-0. Manhattanville falls to a 0-4 conference record.  

The Valiants dropped the top two doubles courts with the No. 3 court remaining vacant for Manhattanville as they could not field players. Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) resided on the No. 1 court. The pair competing against Eli Palagatshev and Suleyman Eminov. The panthers defeated the Valiants top duo, 6-4. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) teamed up on the No. 2 court where they battled each game. The Valiants were ultimately taken down by Dexter Pretnar and Isaac Spottek, 7-5. 

Heading into singles play, the Panthers topped the contest so far leading 2-0 as Manhattanville could not house a player on the No. 6 court. Guzman took place on the No. 2 flight, finishing first for the singles slates. Guzman dropped the Valiants to 3-0 dropping his match to Eminov 6-0, 6-1. His doubles partner, Von Brok, was next to finish for the Valiants as he suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Steve Mains. John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) resided on the No. 5 court dropping to Oliver Culliton 6-3, 6-1. With two final matches remaining the contest remained with Purchase leading the charge, 5-1. The topflight doubles pairing were the final Valiant members to finish with Alcala finishing next on the No. 3 court. Alcala fell to Sporttek 6-2, 6-4. Uitterhoeve was the final finisher taking his match to a third and final tiebreaker set. Uitterhoeve dropped the first set against Palagatshev 6-3 and quickly turned the tables taking the second set 6-2. Palagatshev earned the seven points for Purchase defeating Uitterhoeve 10-5 in the final moments.
