PATCHOGUE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team locked down their first conference win of their 2025 campaign this afternoon. The Valiants secured a 5-2 victory over the Golden Eagles sitting at a 1-4 conference record and 4-8 overall record.
Heading into the match's action, Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) easily handled Vincent Engel and Nolan Knipfing 6-1 in the top doubles slate. Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and Dyland Von Brook teamed up on the No. 2 court to conclude the doubles contest. The pair took down Nick Nemickas and Cody Brush, 6-2. Regardless of the Golden Eagles taking the third doubles draw by default, Manhattanville led the charge heading into singles play.
SJLI automatically leveled the score due to the Valiants not being able to field a player for No. 6 singles. Guzman struck down Tim Celone on the No. 2 flight 6-0, 6-1 to bring Manhattanville back in the lead, 2-1. Uitterhoeve finished next for the Valiants with equivalent numbers to Guzman defeating Nemickas 6-1, 6-0. The following match to finish wrapped up on the No. 4 court where Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) resided. Von Brook prevailed over Engel in a dominating performance 6-1, 6-1. The following match took place on the No. 5 flight where Golden Eagle Ryan McNeely took down John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) 6-3, 6-2. With one final match remaining the Valiants led the contest 4-2. Alcala was the final Valiant to finish taking part in the most demanding match of the Event. Alcala went game-for-game in set one defeating Knipfing 7-5. It was smoother second set as Alcala won 6-2 in the final moments.
With this 5-2 victory, Manhattanville secured their first conference victory of the season with two more regular season matchups.
