Men’s Tennis Drops Final Home Match Against Yeshiva, 7-0

PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville University men's tennis team took to the courts this evening for their final home match of the season. The Valiants faced off against Yeshiva University dropping the match in convincing fashion. With this loss, Manhattanville drops to 5-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play while the Maccabees rise to 8-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play.  

Diving into the match, Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) and Dylan Von Brook (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) were challenged by Mark Adler and harry Radinsky. The Maccabees took the first win of the contest, defeating the Valiants 6-1. Yeshiva notched the second match on the No. 1 flight securing the first point of the overall match to conclude the doubles action. Lev Uitterhoeve (Maastricht, The Netherlands/Porta Mosana College) and Mario Alcala (Madrid, Spain/Hoosac School) traded games with Ethan Sapir and David Cattan until the Maccabees shut down the Valiants, 6-1.  

Yeshiva took an immediate two-point lead to start singles play as Manhattanville could not field a member on the sixth court. John Curtin (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) competed on the No. 5 court against Ethan Rolnick where he took a heavy beating, falling 6-0, 6-1. Alcala was the next Valiant to finish on the No. 3 court. He faced off against Isreal Bussu with replicated scores from the prior match losing 6-0, 6-1. With three matches remaining, the Maccabees led the contest 4-0. Von Brook concluded his match next on the No. 4 court as he struggled to keep pace with Leo Ramey dropping 6-4, 6-2. The top two courts were the final matches to finish with Uitterhoeve wrapping up first on the No. 1 court. He drew the closest match of the evening dropping the first set 7-6 and capped off the second set losing 6-2 in the final moments against Matan Kamhi. Guzman marked the ending of the match coming up short to Jacob Pfeifer 6-4, 6-4.
