GREENWOOD, Ind. – Manhattanville University softball seniors
Rachel Coleman (Lake Forest, Calif./Mission Viejo),
Emily Mottoshiski (Craryville, N.Y./Taconic Hills) and
Samantha Walsh (Spring City, Pa./Owen J Roberts) were named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team, the organization announced earlier on Tuesday.
CSC honors and celebrates the academic and athletic successes of student-athletes with the Academic All-District® Team. All student-athletes with standing of sophomore or greater both academically and athletically were eligible for nomination to the team this year. Athletes needed to have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average while competing in 90 percent of their institution's games or making starts in 66 percent of the team's games. Pitchers were eligible with 17 appearances or 35 total innings pitched.
The Academic All-District® selections are the latest in what has been another highly-decorated season of accolades for Valiant softball. Coleman, Mottoshiski and Walsh were each named All-Skyline selections earlier this month, with Mottoshiski and Walsh making the Skyline First Team and Coleman earning a spot on the Second Team. Walsh and Mottoshiski went on to earn NFCA All-Region status later in May, making the Region III First and Second Teams, respectively.
Coleman makes the All-District® Team for a second-consecutive year after completing her undergraduate studies with a degree in sociology and business. She had her best offensive season of her career in 32 starts at first base, hitting .415 this senior campaign, the second-highest average on the team. Coleman drove in 26 runs and scored 21 with nine doubles and four homers, sporting a .671 slugging percentage that shattered her previous career-high of .490.
Mottoshiski has been a mainstay on the Academic All-District® Team, making her third-straight appearance with this year's selection. The senior arm took the reigns at the top of the Valiant rotation as she worked 151 innings. A nursing major, Mottoshiski went 17-7 with a 1.72 ERA in the circle in 2025, striking out 84. She excelled as both a starter and in relief appearances, tying Manhattanville's single-season save record with three. Mottoshiski etched her name all over the program record book, departing the team ranked in the top ten for career wins, ERA, innings, complete games, appearances, shutouts and strikeouts. She also had a phenomenal season at the plate, hitting a team-high .460 across 63 at-bats with 24 runs scored and 19 runs batted in.
Walsh closes out her Valiant tenure with her first appointment to Academic All-District® after earning her degree in business management and sport studies. She led the Valiants with 47 runs scored as Manhattanville's primary three-hole hitter, finishing her career with a program-record 165 runs scored. Like Mottoshiski, Walsh's name is all over the Valiant record book amongst the leaders in career at-bats, hits, doubles, games played, walks and steals. She capped off a stellar four-year tenure by hitting .381 as a senior, driving in 36 with ten doubles, two triples and six home runs. Walsh also pitched 24 innings, going 4-0 with a 1.17 ERA.
Both Mottoshiski and Walsh were selected to advance to the Academic All-America® ballot, with voting taking place until June 3. The 2025 CSC Academic All-America® Softball Team is slated to be announced on June 17.
