LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After showing out in the opening week of the season and being named Skyline Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week,
Emma Foster (Santa Barbara, Calif./San Marcos) and
Jori Wilkendorf (Livermore, Calif./Livermore) picked up additional accolades on Tuesday as National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top Performers for the week ending Mar. 15.
Foster hit .429 over Manhattanville's first eight games of the season, driving in six runs and scoring seven of her own with three extra base hits on a pair of doubles and a triple. She also went 3-for-4 on stolen base attempts. The sophomore had hits in each of the final seven games of the week after drawing three walks in the season opener against Stockton. After picking up her first hit of the season in Tuesday's doubleheader finale against the Ospreys, she tallied 11 base hits across six games at the Margie Knight Classic, highlighted by a 3-for-4 effort against Muhlenberg. Foster added multi-hit performances against Carnegie Mellon and in both meetings with NYU, driving in three in the Valiants' comeback win against the Tartans.
Wilkendorf was also busy last week, making six pitching appearances to open her junior campaign. She fired 31 innings in the circle, sporting a 1.58 ERA through the early going. Wilkendorf allowed one or fewer earned runs in five of her six outings, picking up three straight wins against King's (Mar. 13), Carnegie Mellon (Mar. 14) and NYU (Mar. 14). She pitched five scoreless innings against the Monarchs for her first win of the season. Wilkendorf punched our eight on the week, logging two strikeouts in four separate games.
Foster and Wilkendorf look to continue their hot starts when the Valiants return to action on Thursday, opening conference play against Yeshiva at 6 p.m.
