DOYLESTOWN, PA – Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) scored four goals on five shots on goal to put women's lacrosse on top at Delaware Valley University, 12-8, on Wednesday afternoon. The Valiants improved to 2-4 while the Aggies evened to 3-3.
In O'Mara's first appearance of the season, she led her team with four goals, four points, and five shots on goal. She also put pressure to cause two turnovers and grab four groundballs.
Lauren Mumaw (Kingsville, Md./Mercy High School) and
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) followed suit with two goals each. Mumaw led the defense with four turnovers. Cabral continues to be a cross-field threat, grabbing a draw control with two caused turnovers and nine groundballs.
Jocelyn found her teammates with two assists, while scoring one of her own, also tallying seven groundballs.
Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) scored her eighth goal of the season while dishing out one.
Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) and
Bethany Rudolph (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) added to the team's totals with a goal apiece.
Delaware Valley was led by Abbie Hostetler, who scored five goals and recorded two assists, while also grabbing four draw controls. In the middle circle, Piper Jones led her squad with seven draw controls.
Manhattanville struck first with Mumaw finding her way through the eight under a minute into the game. Mazo found Cabral a little over a minute later to put the Vals up two. Del Val answered Cabral's goal before a four-minute drought was broken by Pierce, taking advantage of the free hash. A second gal by Hostetler kept the game close after the first 15 minutes.
Hostetler started the second quarter by tying things up. O'Mara found her way across the field, regaining the lead off a clear before heading to the benches for halftime.
Cabral came out of the break, taking advantage of a woman-up opportunity to push the lead out by two before O'Mara quickly added, making the score 6-3 with 13 to play. The Aggies fought for two quick goals before O'Mara found a rebound to send to the back of the cage.
Emmy Gagnon took advantage of a free hash to put her team within one before O'Mara struck again to seal the third quarter up 8-6.
Glass scored her only goal of the night off a free possession goal to start the final quarter. Mazo worked her way through traffic to score and put the Vals up by four with seven to play in the game.
The Aggies scored to bring the game within three before being answered by Rudolph and Mumaw. The home team rocketed in one last goal before the Valiants secured the 12-8 road win.
