PURCHASE, N.Y. – After helping the Valiants capture their first win of spring last week,
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin) has been announced as the Skyline Conference Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week, for the week ending Mar. 22.
Kato made his collegiate debut on Thursday against UMass Boston, winning both of his flights as Manhattanville swept the match against the Beacons. The Japan native partnered with
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago) in No. 1 doubles, defeating William Kubinec and Thomas Ameral 6-2 to get the Valiants off to a strong start. He then squared off with Kubinec in No. 2 singles, winning 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.
Kato and the Valiants are back on the courts tomorrow, hosting Saint Joseph's Long Island at 4 p.m. for the team's Skyline opener.
