PURCHASE, N.Y. – Coming off their performances at the plate in Sunday's sweep of Saint Joseph's Long Island,
Josie O'Leary (Pawling, N.Y./Pawling) and
Breanna Ochoa (South Gate, Calif./Saint Joseph High School) of the Manhattanville University softball team have been named Skyline Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, for the week ending Mar. 29.
It is the first honor for both players this season.
O'Leary hit a ridiculous .875 in the pair of games against the Golden Eagles, leading the Valiant offense that plated 25 runs in the sweep. The sophomore collected seven total hits in the win with a pair of doubles and a triple for her first extra basehits since Mar. 15. O'Leary drove in three and scored five runs herself, being a menace on the base paths with a perfect 4-of-4 on stolen base attempts.
Ochoa also found success against the Saint Joseph's arms, hitting .750 in the two games. She scored a season-high three runs in the opener with a hit and a pair of walks, picking up an RBI as well. In Game Two, she went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run driven in, run scored and a steal.
O'Leary, Ochoa and the Valiants are back in action on Wednesday at Albertus Magnus.
