BRYN MAWR, PA – Manhattanville women's lacrosse took control of the field in the dominant 17-3 win over Bryn Mawr on Wednesday afternoon. The Valiants even out at 5-5 while the Owls drop to 2-6.
Erin Flaherty (Rockland, Mass./Canterbury School) protected the eight-meter in the defense-heavy victory by forcing five turnovers for the Owls while picking up four groundballs. Jocelyn Mazo (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) forced four turnovers to complement Flaherty while also taking one groundball and one draw control.
Maura Spruck (Hawthorne, N.Y./Westlake High School) earned her fourth win in the goal for the Valiants, adding six saves to her freshman total.
Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) recorded five points with four goals off six shots on goal while grabbing two groundballs and causing four turnovers for the Valiants. Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) sat atop her squad with Pierce with four goals, one groundball, and three caused turnovers.
Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) added three goals and one assist to the totals while finding her place in the draw circle, winning four draw controls. Fighting right beside Cabral, Alexa Bennett (Sparrowbush, N.Y./Port Jervis) pulled down four draw controls.
Lauren Mumaw (Kingsville, Md./Mercy High School) and Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland) put up two goals apiece, while the freshman took two draw controls and the sophomore two grounders.
The first quarter was even on both sides, with the defensive ends holding strong. Bridget Sonju (Canton, Conn./Canton High School) broke through the eight in a man-up opportunity to put the Valiants on the board. Mumaw struck next before the Owls got themselves on the scoreboard. O'Mara wrapped up the quarter to further extend the lead.
The Valiants held the home team scoreless in the second quarter while Pierce struck twice, as well as O'Mara, Cabral, and Glass, finding a piece of the action.
After halftime, Bryn Mawr grabbed the first goal before Bethany Rudolph (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) found Pierce less than a minute later to take back the goal. Cabral, Pierce, and Mumaw concluded the third quarter.
Rudolph took advantage of the extra man to find her way through the defense for her sole goal of the night to begin the final 15 minutes. O'Mara added two more goals to the lead, sandwiching the home team's third and final ball to find the back of the net. Glass and Cabral wrapped up the game to put the Valiants at 17 goals for the second consecutive win.
