Women's Lacrosse Bested by Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Manhattanville women's lacrosse fell short on the road against Mount Saint Mary, 12-8, on Wednesday evening. The Valiants drop to 5-6 (2-2 SKY) while the Knights even out to 4-4 (3-1 SKY).

Kathleen O'Mara (Huntington, N.Y./Walt Whitman) fronted the offensive efforts for the Valiants with three goals, one assist, one groundball, and one caused turnover. Kaci Pierce (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) was close behind with two goals, one coming from a free dash.

Lauren Mumaw (Kingsville, Md./Mercy High School), Ashley Glass (Mahopac, N.Y./Lakeland), and Bethany Rudolph (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon High School) all added a goal to the board. Pietra Cabral (Mineola, N.Y./Mineola) led the team in the middle circle with four draw, grabbing two groundballs, and sending two assists.

The Knights set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-2 lead in the first 15. Rudolph and Pierce kept the game within reach, with each respective goal coming five minutes apart.

Glass struck first in the second quarter, before the home team answered with two goals. Mumaw and Pierce fought through the eight to meet the Knights at five with two minutes until halftime. MSMC added one goal with 25 seconds left in the first half.

With all second-half goals coming in the third quarter, the Knights jumped ahead of the Valiants 12-8, outscoring the visitors 6-3. The three goals from the Valiants came from O'Mara in an attempt to ignite a comeback, falling short in the final 15 minutes.

Up Next – The Valiants return home Saturday for senior day against Purchase at noon.
