ST. DAVIDS, Pa. –
A pair of late goals cost the Manhattanville men's soccer team its second conference victory of the season, as they fell to Freedom Conference foe Eastern University, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon at Olson Field.

The Eagles scored in the 77th minute and again in the 85th minute, despite being outshot 15-10 by the Valiants. Phil Matua scored the first goal for the home team off a feed from Ben Faro. The Eagles added an insurance goal with five minutes remaining in regulation as Austin Stover out-ran a Valiant defender before sending a pass to Braden Gross in front of the net to finish the play and give Eastern a two-goal edge.

Early in the second half, the Valiants fired off four shots on goal, but saves by Crowder kept the contest scoreless. Trailing by two goals late in the contest, the Valiants had an opportunity to score with just under five minutes left as sophomore Erick Olazabal (Milton, Ontario) fired a shot resulting in a corner kick by the Valiants, however a clear by the Eagles negated the Valiants opportunity to cut the deficit to a one-goal game. Olazabal has a second chance with seconds remaining but his shot went wide of the cage, preserving the victory for the Eagles.

The Valiants finished the contest with eight shots on goal, but a great performance by John Crowder gave the Eagles' netminder his third shutout of the season.  For the Valiants, senior goalie Jason Torres (Harrison, N.Y.) made four saves, but dropped his fourth game of the season.
