POMONA
, N.J.Junior Damaris Morales (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic) led the Valiants with 30 kills and added 46 digs and two blocks as the Manhattanville women's volleyball team went 1-2 at the Richard Stockton Quad-Match, hosted by Richard Stockton University on Saturday morning and afternoon at the Stockton Sports Center.

Manhattanville started the day on the right foot, sweeping John Jay College for the second time this year with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-23) win. The Valiants then lost a heartbreaking five-setter to Kean University, 3-2 (25-16, 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 15-2), before running out of gas in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-13) loss against the host Ospreys.

In the first match of the day, Morales and freshman Jocelyn Branca (Eastchester, N.Y.) both reached double-figures in kills and digs as the Valiant swept the Bloodhounds. Morales led all players with 12 kills and added 11 digs and three service aces, while Branca registered 10 kills to go with a team-leading 13 digs. Juniors Maggie Black (Seattle, Wash.) and Makana Gomes (Honolulu, Hawaii) both had six kills as well, with Gomes also contributing 33 assists and eight digs.

The hardest match of the day to swallow was the middle contest against Kean, as the Valiants held a 2-1 lead and a 20-15 advantage in the fourth set but could not hold on in falling in five sets. Morales led the team again and tied for the match high with 16 kills and just three errors (.317 hitting), while also digging out 25 balls – the most by a Valiant since Gomes had 26 in 2008.

Freshman Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) also had a good outing with eight kills, 13 digs, three aces and a block. Gomes also had an impressive 35-assist, 21-dig double-double, and Black and junior Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn.) each had seven kills as well.

After the heartbreaking loss, Manhattanville did not have much left in the tank against Richard Stockton, as the Valiants reached no higher than 13 points in any set in the 3-0 loss. Camaj registered seven of the team's 15 kills in a losing effort, with Branca adding a team-best 12 digs as well.

Manhattanville (9-16, 0-6 Freedom) will close out the home and Freedom Conference portions of its 2010 schedule on Wednesday night, as the Valiants host FDU-Florham at 7 p.m. at Kennedy Gymnasium. The match will be video streamed live online at GoValiants.TV.
