HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. –
The Manhattanville women's volleyball team closed out its 2011 season on Saturday afternoon at the Centenary (N.J.) Tri-Match, with the Valiants dropping a pair of matches to the host Cyclones and Montclair State at the Folkner Family Gym. The squad was swept by host Centenary in the first match of the day, 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-19), and then came out on the wrong end of a 3-1 (25-13, 25-20, 22-25, 25-19) score against the Red Hawks.

Senior Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford) was easily Manhattanville's best player on the court on the final day of her collegiate career, as the senior led the Valiants with 16 kills and 31 digs over the course of the afternoon. However, no other Valiant had more than seven kills in the seven combined sets, as the team's offense had trouble against their two opponents.

Against the Cyclones, senior Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford) was the lone Valiant to record more than two kills, as she put down seven while also leading Manhattanville with 10 digs for the match. Over the three sets, Manhattanville only managed 12 kills and committed 19 attack errors on 78 attempts, as the visitors had no more than five kills in any set.

The Valiants were much more competitive against the Red Hawks in the final match of the day, as the Valiants came close in the second and fourth sets but ultimately could only take one frame to fall by the 3-1 score.

Johnson again was the team's leader in kills with nine, although in this match she was helped along by seven from freshman Sam Delmer (Boise, Idaho/Eagle) and six from senior Damaris Morales (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic/Colegio San Jose). Johnson and Morales also tied for the team lead with 21 digs apiece, while Johnson also added two assists and two service aces as well.

Delmer had 24 digs on Saturday to finish her freshman season with 488, the second-most digs in a single-season in program history. With 14 assists this afternoon, freshman Veronica Ferreiras (Rockville Centre, N.Y./Malverne) also cracked the top 10 in single-season assists with 375 for the year.

Manhattanville finishes the 2011 season with an overall record of 15-15, the first .500 season by the Valiants since 2001 and the most wins in a single-season since 2000.
