BOSTON, Mass. –
The Manhattanville women's volleyball team was involved in a pair of sweeps on Saturday afternoon at the Wentworth Institute of Technology Tri-Match, as the Valiants fell to the host Leopards, 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-21) before coming back to sweep John Jay in straight sets, 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-13) at Tansey Gymnasium.

Senior Damaris Morales (Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic/Colegio San Jose) and sophomore Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) were the Valiants' top-two offensive performers on the afternoon, as Morales led her teammates with 11 kills on .364 hitting and Camaj posted a team-best .412 percentage with nine kills and two errors on 17 attempts.

Manhattanville's best match of the day came against John Jay, as the Valiants rebounded from a Wentworth loss with an impressive victory over the Bloodhounds. Camaj led the team with seven kills on 10 swings (.600 hitting) and Morales chipped in six of her own in the win.

The Valiants took charge of the match early in the opening set, using an 11-1 run to open up a big lead and cruise to a set-one win. Manhattanville used seven consecutive points to erase an early John Jay lead and gain control in the second stanza, and then put the match away early with a 7-1 run to start the third and final set.

Against host Wentworth in the first match of the day, the Valiants started all three sets well but faltered toward the end to fall in three sets. Morales and classmate Ally Johnson (Branford, Conn./Branford) had five kills apiece to lead the team, while Johnson also added a team-leading 13 digs as well.

After WIT used an 11-3 run in the middle of the first set to take a 1-0 lead, Manhattanville opened up a 12-6 lead in the middle frame and eventually held an 18-12 advantage. However, the home team followed with a game-changing 12-1 run and eventually pulled away to take a two-set-to-none lead. The third set was tied at six early, but another Leopard run gave the home team some breathing room up 20-12 and the team eased its way to the win.

Manhattanville (8-5) will get back into Freedom Conference play on Wednesday night, as the Valiants travel to Doylestown, Pa., to take on Delaware Valley College beginning at 7 p.m.
