FARMINGDALE, N.Y. –
The early-season struggles continued for the undermanned Manhattanville women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon, as the Valiants dropped a 5-0 decision to Farmingdale State College in a non-conference matchup at Rams Field.

Farmingdale State scored twice in the first 13 minutes to take the initiative early, as Rebecca Richman scored off a corner kick in the eighth minute followed by an unassisted goal from Jamie Smith at the 12:48 mark. After the half, the home team tacked on three more goals to account for the final score.

Farmingdale held a 16-6 advantage in shots and a 10-2 edge in corner kicks on the afternoon, keeping the Valiant defense busy throughout the contest. Freshman Bridget Miranda (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central) played all 90 minutes in net for the visitors and turned aside five shots, while Amanda Maass and Stacey Rao split time for the Rams and combined for one save.

Manhattanville (0-3) will look to change its fortunes with a return home to Purchase this weekend, as the Valiants host the annual Valiant Classic on September 10-11. Manhattanville will host SUNY Geneseo in the first match of the weekend at noon on Saturday, with GoValiants.TV having the video coverage starting at 11:50 a.m. The Classic also marks the team's annual partnership with “Soccer for a Cure”, as the team will be soliciting donations for the fight against cancer at all men's and women's games throughout the weekend.
