DeChent Sets New Career Scoring Mark; Eclipses 100 Career Points

Junior Amanda DeChent continued her re-writing of the Manhattanville record books with three more goals on Wednesday.
Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Junior Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) scored three goals to eclipse the century mark for her career and become Manhattanville field hockey's all-time leading scorer in the Valiants' 8-4 loss to the Eastern Eagles on Wednesday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

DeChent scored once in the first half to pull within one of Kristen Coffey '04, who finished her career with 98 career points. She scored at the 49:12 mark of the second half to pass Coffey and give her 99 career points, and DeChent scored once more with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game to push her over 100 career points at Manhattanville, becoming the first player in program history to reach the historic mark.

In addition to her school record, DeChent also became the Freedom Conference's all-time single-season points leader with 65 on the season. She passed Debbie Wychock of King's (Pa.), who set the previous record of 61 points twice in both the 2006 and the 2008 seasons.

In terms of the game on the field the Eagles came out fast and scored a pair of quick goals just 7:29 into the contest as Kelby Bolton and Jess Jaindl both scored on assists from Brittany Moyer.

DeChent scored her first of the afternoon to trim the lead in half after making some quick moves around the Eagle defense and then around goalkeeper Kylie Jones to send the ball to the back of the goal.

The Eagles went on to score the next six goals of the half as Jaindl picked up two more, Bolton added one additional goal, as did her sister Megan Bolton.

After halftime neither side was able to score through the first 12 minutes of play, until senior Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) scored on a rebound after the initial shot was taken by DeChent. For Meenan, she too continues her way towards 100 career points as she now has 94 in her stellar Valiant career.

DeChent added her Manhattanville record-breaker with 49:12 gone by in the game, before trimming the lead back down to four and breaking the century mark for points with 11:37 to go in the contest. Both goals came via lifts over the goalkeeper, rattling the net on the back of the goal.

The Eagles possessed the ball down the stretch of the game right up until the final horn as they came away with the 8-4 victory. Final shots in the game were 33-15 in favor of the road team while penalty corners were also in favor of the Eagles at a 13-8 clip.

In goal Hilton suffered the loss after allowing all eight goals, and making 10 saves on the game through the first 35 minutes of action. Freshman Courtney Ponte (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) came on for the second half and registered five saves without allowing a goal. On the opposite side of the field Jones made 10 saves herself and allowed all four Valiant tallies through the 70 minutes of action.
