FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. –
Baruch used strong performances in singles and doubles play to top the Manhattanville men's tennis team by an 8-1 score in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Manhattanville managed just one win on the day, coming thanks to the first-doubles tandem of seniors Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) and Dean Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders). The pair bested Artem Gorbachevskiy and Guy Goren by the score of 8-5, the closest of the three doubles matches of the afternoon.

Gorbachevskiy and Capozzi also engaged in a very close first-singles match as well, with the two players splitting the first two sets before needing a supertiebreaker to decide a winner. After Capozzi dropped the first set, 6-2, and came back to win the second, 6-4, Gorbachevskiy emerged from the supertiebreaker with a 10-4 win to earn the victory.

That was the only singles match to go more than two sets, as no Bearcat player lost more than six games in singles competition.

Manhattanville (0-3) will begin Freedom Conference play next Saturday, as the Valiants host Misericordia on March 31 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Manhattanville Courts. Baruch (6-1) will host Staten Island in a CUNYAC match on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
