How We Got Here
The Valiants secured the top seed and the first round bye by running the table in Skyline Conference play, going 8-0 in conference tilts. Manhattanville returns to the postseason for the first time since 2024 after missing the playoffs a year ago and hold the top seed for the first time since 2023. Manhattanville has won its last seven matches overall and has not lost to a Division III opponent since February, logging 11-conseuctive victories against in-division foes. In that stretch, the Valiants have dropped just five points, earning eight 7-0 victories.
It's been a full team effort, but the Valiants have gotten exceptional performances from their three All-Conference selections of
Thomas Jouanneau (Luneville, France/Lycee Arago),
Elouan Charretteur (Fontainebleau, France/Lycée International Francois Premier 1er) and
Kazuma Kato (Nerima, Tokyo, Japan/Aioi Gakuin). Graduate transfer Jouanneau was named the Skyline's Player of the Year on Monday after going 6-0 in conference singles and 7-0 in doubles against the Skyline, occupying the top two flights throughout the season. Charretteur, the Skyline's Rookie of the Year, was just as strong against the conference, going 8-0 in singles and 7-0 in duos. Kato, meanwhile, was combined 14-0 in singles and doubles versus the Skyline with seven wins in both facets.
Yeshiva took down No. 5 Purchase 4-0 on Monday to advance to the semifinals. The Maccabees took the advantage in doubles, with the tandem of Jack Radinsky and Elan Goldstein winning the No. 3 flight ahead of Jacob Feit and Akiva Gelernter taking a 6-2 decision in No. 2s. Radinsky, Gelernter and Aidan Stephen went on to win three straight singles draws to complete the sweep and make their 12
th-straight appearance in the Skyline semis.
The Maccabees also feature three All-Conference selections, with Feit representing Yeshiva on the First Team while Stephen and Israel Bussu were voted to the Second Team.
Last Time Out
It was just a week ago the last time the two teams took to the court, a 7-0 Manhattanville win on Apr. 22. The Valiants took all three doubles flights, with the pairings being the same duos the team will roll out in Wednesday's semifinal. Charretteur and Kato logged a 6-0 win in No. 1s, while Jouanneau and
Derwin Guzman (Bronx, N.Y./Frederick Douglass Academy) posted a 6-1 No. 2s win with
Nicholas Gervasi (Melbourne, Victoria, Australia/Epsom College) and
Sami Badre-Hume (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) collecting a 6-4 decision in the No. 3 tilt.
The Valiants went on to win all six singles flights, once again featuring the lineup that will take to the court on Wednesday. Yeshiva shuffled some positioning around between the meetup with the Valiants and the lineup that took down Purchase on Monday, looking to have a reversal of fortune from the regular season meeting.
Tournament History
The Valiants and Maccabees met in back-to-back Skyline Conference Championship tournaments in 2021 and 2022, both won by Manhattanville.
