Valiants Split Two Matches on Day One of St. Joseph's Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's volleyball team split its first two matches at this weekend's St. Joseph's (L.I.) Invitational, putting away Farmingdale State in five sets before suffering a three-set loss to Wilkes on Friday night.

Freshman Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) led the Valiants with 36 kills and .300 hitting on the night, followed by senior Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) with 21 kills over eight sets. Freshman Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) also had two good matches, combining for 51 assists and 34 digs to lead the team in both categories.

The first match of the night was a marathon affair, but Manhattanville eventually put away Farmingdale State after letting a pair of one-set leads slip away in a five-set victory, 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-27, 15-10).

Primavera highlighted the Manhattanville attack in the win, tying for sixth on the school's single-match list with a season-high 21 kills on .381 hitting. Camaj also reached double-figures in kills with 11 and added 10 digs and four blocks.

Quinabo also had a big double-double of her own with 33 assists and 22 digs to go with five kills, three blocks and two aces, while junior Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) also had a good overall match with 13 digs, five kills and an ace.

Manhattanville could not finish off the day-one sweep in its second match of the evening, however, as the Valiants fell to Wilkes in a non-conference matchup between the two Freedom Conference schools, 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 26-24).

Primavera and Camaj combined for 25 of the team's 27 kills in the three sets, with Primavera putting down 15 and Camaj adding 10 of her own. Both players also reached double figures in digs as well, as Camaj led the squad with 18 and Primavera chipped in 10.

Quinabo also had her second straight double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs, and Casino dug out 16 balls as well.

Manhattanville (14-13) will be back for day two of the St. Joseph's Invitational tomorrow, when the Valiants take on Sarah Lawrence at 10 a.m. and the host Eagles at 2 p.m.
