Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Despite a program record-tying 25 kills from freshman Alissa Primavera (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster), the Manhattanville women's volleyball team could not get past Lehman in the fifth set, falling by a 3-2 (25-27, 25-20, 25-18, 20-25, 15-11) score to the Lightning on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at Kennedy Gymnasium.

Primavera had a big day offensively for Manhattanville (16-15) in the final home match of the season, matching the program single-match record of 25 kills first set by Jen Riordan '90 on October 23, 1987. She also came one dig short of a double-double with nine.

In her final match on the Kennedy Gym floor, senior Susy Camaj (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Millbrook) also had a great game, posting 21 kills and 17 digs to go with three service aces and four blocks. Classmate Valerie Moss (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopaxi) also played well, getting the start and picking up one kill, one assist and three digs in two sets.

Freshman Megan Quinabo (Pearl City, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools-Kapalama) also had a double-double with 41 assists and 12 digs, while junior Alyssa Casino (Rye Brook, N.Y./Maria Regina) led the squad with 22 digs.

Jo-Marie Aquino led Lehman (20-6) with 23 kills and a match-best 32 digs, while Jessica Gonzalez led all players with 50 assists and also had 10 digs and five service aces.

Manhattanville played well to earn a set-one victory, getting seven kills each from Camaj and Primavera to take the early lead. The frame featured 10 ties and three lead changes, the last lead change coming when the Valiants used an 8-3 run to turn a 15-15 tie into a 23-18 lead. After failing to convert on their first four set points, the Valiants finally put away Lehman with two Primavera kills to take a 1-0 lead.

The second frame also featured 10 ties and four lead changes early on, with the last tie score coming at 13-all. But Manhattanville managed back-to-back points only once the rest of the way, as the Lightning outscored the Valiants by a 13-7 margin to even the match.

After Lehman never trailed in taking the third set, Manhattanville came back with a strong effort in the fourth set. The home team scored six of the first eight points to take an early advantage, and the Valiants never allowed Lehman to get back to even for the entire set despite getting to within a point on four occasions. The last time came at 16-15 but a Camaj kill and a Quinabo ace got the lead back up to three, and the Valiants saw Lehman commit five attack errors and two service errors to hand the set to the home team.

That set up a decisive fifth set that featured good offense from both teams, as the squads combined for 19 kills and only two errors. After scoring four straight points to take a 4-2 lead, Manhattanville saw Lehman go on a 7-2 run that put the visitors up 9-6. The Valiants got back within two on a pair of occasions at 9-7 and 12-10, but Aquino came up with some timely kills as well as a big block to help her team escape with the win.

Manhattanville will close out to the 2013 season on Wednesday night, as the Valiants travel to FDU-Florham for a Freedom Conference matchup starting at 7 p.m.
