Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – Despite having five players in double digits, the Manhattanville women's basketball team struggled to find their rhythm against New York University on Wednesday night, falling by a final score of 93-67.
Junior
Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) led the way for the Valiants by tallying 15 points to go along with 16 rebounds in route to her second consecutive double-double of the season. Sophomore
Ashley Raaf (Rockaway Beach, N.Y./Christ The King) contributed 14 points while teammates
Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) and
Shayna Robinson (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) finished with 11 points apiece.
The Violets easily handled Manhattanville with the help of leading scorer Lindsey Oldshue, who finished with a game-high 21 points. NYU had three other players finish in double digits to give the Violets the landslide victory.
Manhattanville held its only lead of the contest in the first half as the Valiants were up 9-7 with 15:43 remaining. After a three-point basket by Oldshue, the Violets would not look back. NYU went on a 9-0 run with 12 minutes remaining in the first half and continued to pour it on.
NYU went into halftime with a comfortable 20-point lead over the Valiants, 52-32.
The second half consisted of Manhattanville pulling out all the intangibles to get back into the ball game, but the Violets proved to be too strong. NYU was the quicker team by breaking out for 18 points in transition and dominating the paint with 56 points scored on the interior.
Manhattanville shot 35.3 percent (24-68) from the floor while NYU shot an impressive 47.2 percent (34-72).
The Valiants are still in search for their first victory of the season as they fall to 0-3 on the year. Manhattanville will play next against Drew on Saturday in its home opener at 6:30 p.m. Live stats can be found on GoValiants.com.
