Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Manhattanville women's basketball team opened up the first half on Friday night by jumping out on a 22-0 run over Purchase, helping the Valiants seal an 84-53 blowout victory.
Manhattanville had four players finish in double-digits, including junior
Bri Pabon (Newington, Conn./Newington) who finished with a game-high 22 points. Pabon shot an outstanding 50 percent (7-14) mark from the floor that included three three-pointers.
Helping Pabon in the victory was classmate
Alyson Caiazzo (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) who tallied 16 points and 15 rebounds while also tying a Manhattanville single-game record with seven blocks. Freshman
Candice Scott-Mason (Trenton, N.J./Ewing) contributed 14 points while sophomore
Ashley Franklin (New Haven, Conn./Hill Regional Career) finished with 11.
Pabon and her teammates outplayed the Panthers right off the opening tip-off. After Scott-Mason connected on a layup to give the Valiants a 2-0 lead in the first three seconds, Manhattanville would never look back.
The Valiants took a 22-0 lead with 13:12 remaining in the first half after Scott-Mason turned a Panthers turnover into an easy transition layup.
The Panthers scored their first point of the game when Elizabeth Osowiecki made a free throw at the 11:08 mark. Both teams exchanged baskets for the last 10 minutes of the first-half, but the Valiants made it extremely difficult for the Panthers to come back.
As both teams headed into the locker rooms at halftime, the Valiants had a controlling 41-19 lead.
The second half consisted of the Panthers hoping to play catch up, but Manhattanville was too strong. The Panthers scored the first basket of the second half after Jess Lindsay connected on a jump shot to make it 41-21 in favor of the Valiants.
The 20-point lead at 41-21 was the closest the Panthers came to the Valiants in the second half. Manhattanville led by as many as 35 points in the second half, helping improve the Valiants overall record to 3-8.
Manhattanville dominated the paint by outscoring Purchase 42-8 inside the lane. The Valiants shot 49.3 percent (33-67) overall while the Panthers were just 25 percent (18-72).
