Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Manhattanville men's lacrosse team lost a tightly-contested battle with the Colonials of Curry College on Wednesday, falling by a final score of 4-2 at Queens University. The goal scorers for the Valiants were junior midfielder
Jack Polak (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) and classmate
Tom Tarczali (Stratford, Conn./Saint Joseph).
The matchup featured a clash between two solid goaltenders as Manhattanville goaltender
Ian Reill (East Rockaway, N.Y./East Rockaway) continued his impressive rookie campaign, making nine saves on 13 shots. Curry goaltender Timothy McNair, who entered the match with a stingy 5.50 goals against average, was good between the pipes for the Colonels, finishing the game with 12 saves on 14 shots to lead Curry to their fourth win.
Continuing the trend so far on this young season, the game was a series of runs. Curry opened the scoring with only 30 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Colonels followed that up at the 12:00 mark of the second quarter as freshman midfielder John McMenomey picked up his fourth goal of the season.
The Valiants battled back and scored the next two goals of the match. Tarczali tallied his first goal of the season as he put home a pass from freshman midfielder
Andrew Murray (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac). Coming out of halftime down 2-1, it wasn't long before Murray picked up his second assist of the day, this time feeding Polak in front, who fired a shot past McNair to even the game at two.
Unfortunately for the Valiants, Curry was able to answer back with two goals of their own. The third and fourth goals, coming off the sticks of senior Connor Arnold and junior Sean Ahern, respectively, were enough to earn the Colonials a victory.
Despite the loss, the Valiants battled competitively and will need to continue to play well together as they face off against a Becker team that beat the Curry Colonials 11-7 on Monday. Manhattanville and Becker will face off in Charlotte on Friday beginning at 12:15 p.m.
