WILLKES-BARRE, Pa. – Making their first appearance of the Fall 2021 semester, the Manhattanville College men's tennis team took home all four doubles crowns at the King's College Men's Fall Invitational over the weekend. The Valiants also ended the weekend a perfect 4-0 in singles play, but inclement weather on Sunday prevented the completion of the semifinals rounds in all solo brackets.
James Hourihan (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) and
Nick Schlapak (Dover, N.H./Dover) took the crown in No. 1 Doubles, starting their march to the title with an 8-2 win over Scranton's John Sinclair and Patrick O'Mara. After picking up an 8-3 victory over Arcadia's Jonathan Noble and Josh Noble, Hourihan and Schlapak were victorious over Emil Vyskocil and Conor Ryan on Susquehanna in the finals, 8-4.
It was the duo of
Ryan Rosenberg () and
Luis Gonzalez (Norwalk, Conn./Brien McMahon) repping the Valiants in No. 2 Doubles, starting their weekend off with an 8-2 quarterfinals win over Casey Haas and Jason Anderson of Lycoming. Rosenberg and Gonzalez earned an 8-0 win over Penn's Alexander Norris and Jesse Kight to set up another championship draw with Susquehanna. The Valiants reigned supreme once again, edgeding out Joshua Sanderson and John Duncan, 8-6.
The Valiants earned quarterfinal byes in No. 3 and 4 Doubles, placing
Weston Goodwin () and
Dylan Crowley (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) two matches away from Manhattanville's third title of the weekend. The duo collected an 8-0 win over host King's College's Jacob Nelson and Alex Nole to meet Susquehanna's Tim Basta and Ethan Cooley. The Valiants continued with the upperhand over the River Hawks, collecting an 8-1 victory to win the bracket.
Doubles flight No. 4 showcased two Manhattanville teams meeting in the finals.
Jaime Peredo (Uruapan, México/Instituto Morelos) and
Max Moeller (Crestwood, N.Y./Iona Prep) earned an 8-6 win over Susquehanna's Kyle Wagner and Carson Berry in their semifinals draw, while
Vincent Liberatore (Yonkers, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) and
Fabian Meiser (Cologne, Germany/Woodstock Academy (Conn.)) picked up an 8-6 win of their own on their side of the bracket over FDU-Florham's Matt Kolonhowsku and Karanveer Saini. It the championship match of Valiants vs Valiants, Peredo and Moeller collected the 8-3 win over their teammates.
While singles competition did not advance past the quarterfinals draws, the Valiants were victorious in all of their solo plays on Saturday. Hourihan was the Manhattanville representative in No. 1 Singles, earning a 6-1, 6-3 win over Penn's Tucker Phillippe-Joh. In the No. 2 bracket, Rosenberg earned a 6-0, 6-0 shutout over Lycoming's Luke Leach. Gonzalez had a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Scranton's Jason Budrys in No. 3 Singles, while Goodwin nabbed a 6-0, 6-0 win against Jesse Kight of Penn.
