WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. – With the High-A Minor League Baseball (MiLB) season starting in just 46 days, the New York Yankees announced the Hudson Valley Renegades coaching staff Friday afternoon, with baseball standout
Dan Fiorito '12 at the helm.
A season ago, the 30-year-old Yonkers, New York native was set to take the reigns of the Staten Island Yankees but the minor league season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Then the restructuring across MiLB occurred which resulted in the Yankees ending their relationship with their Staten Island affiliate and choosing the Renegades as their new full-season Class A team.
Fiorito's journey started with three seasons in a Valiant uniform, where he put together a remarkable career, including becoming a two-time All-America selection.
Fiorito then played four seasons in the Yankees organization in the minors at third base. He spent majority of his playing career with the AA Trenton Thunder, appearing in 208 games and was also part of the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.
Fiorito slashed .240 / .308 / .317 to go with seven home runs, 98 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 322 games played before the unanimously well-liked player was approached by the organization about his thoughts on transitioning into coaching.
Fiorito's managing experience started as the defensive coach for the Low-A Charleston RiverDogs in the 2018 campaign. In 2019, he earned the opportunity to manage the Gulf Coach League Yankees East, one of the club's Rookie League affiliates.
Joining
Fiorito on the Renegades coaching staff ahead of the 2021 season are pitching coach Gerardo Casadiego, hitting coach Jacob Hirst, defensive coach Aaron Bossi, athletic trainer Michael Becker, strength and conditioning coach Danny Smith, clubhouse manager Matt Seletsky, video manager Mike Triller and advanced scouting analyst Amanda Brady.
The Renegades are set to open their season on May 4, 2021 with a six-game road series against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies High-A affiliate). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 P.M. from First Energy Park in Lakewood, New Jersey.
