Manhattanville Field Hockey Joins Atlantic East Conference

1/19/2022 2:28:00 PM

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College field hockey team will have a new conference home starting in 2022, as the Valiants will be joining the Atlantic East Conference as an associate member this year. The membership was officially announced by the Atlantic East and conference commissioner Jessica Huntley earlier this week.

"We are so excited to further enhance our field hockey league with the addition of Manhattanville," Huntley said in the conference's official release. "Manhattanville will strengthen our numbers, competition, and overall experience for the field hockey student-athletes."

"We are extremely excited to join the Atlantic East as the new home for the Manhattanville College field hockey program," added Julene Caulfield, Manhattanville Director of Athletics and Recreation. "We are grateful for the opportunity to join the strong competition in the conference and allow for the continued development of the Valiants field hockey program."

Manhattanville's addition to the Atlantic East brings the number of teams competing in field hockey in the conference to eight, comprised of institutions in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. The Valiants join Cabrini University, Centenary University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Marywood University, Immaculata University, Neumann University and St. Mary's College of Maryland. This past season saw Cabrini win the conference tournament in a double overtime contest against St. Mary's. Manhattanville is immediately eligible for All-Conference awards and the Atlantic East field hockey championship for the Fall 2022 season.

The Valiants had competed in the New England Collegiate Conference for the last two seasons, winning both the conference's regular season and tournament championship in the 2019 season. The Valiants were 18-20 overall in the two seasons in the NECC.
