How We Got Here
The Valiants are in the playoffs for the first time since 2022 when the team secured a berth in the Atlantic East Championship during its inaugural year in the conference. After missing the postseason outright last year after going 0-6 in conference play, Manhattanville was able to secure the final spot in the 2024 tournament thanks to a 1-0 win over AEC foe Neumann on Oct. 26. The win was Manhattanville's first conference victory since Oct. 12, 2022, and was just what the team needed to secure fourth in the conference standings.
On the other half of the opening round matchup, Marywood has proven themselves to be the team to beat in the Atlantic East. The Pacers enter the postseason carrying a 12-6 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in the Atlantic East. While Marywood did see its four-game win streak snapped at the hands of TCNJ in its regular season finale on Oct. 30, 4-1, the Pacers outscored Atlantic East opponents by a 21-3 margin.
The two teams met in Manhattanville's last postseason appearance, with Marywood notching a 3-2 victory in the first round of the 2022 Atlantic East Championship. This year's winner advances into the championship finals on Nov. 9, taking on the winner of No. 2 Immaculata-No. 3 Gwynedd Mercy.
Last Time Out
The Valiants witnessed the explosive Pacer offense firsthand in the regular season meeting on Oct. 23, falling to Marywood by a final of 9-0. Cydney Lahr and Dariane Jones led the visitors' offense in the contest in Purchase, both scoring a pair of goals and earning an assist. Maria Tomada also wreaked havoc with 13 total shot attempts, scoring twice.
Manhattanville finished with just four shots in the loss—a pair from
Hannah Revell (South Glens Falls, N.Y./South Glens Falls) and one apiece off the sticks of
Keira Guinan (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) and
Alyssa Monahan (East Fishkill, NY/John Jay High School). Facing no shortage of shot attempts, all three Valiant netminders saw plenty of action in the contest.
Hannah Doherty (Clarkstown, N.Y./Clarkstown South) made five saves in a quarter of play, while
Lidia Vasquez-Sinisi (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) made six stops in her 15 minutes.
Cat Morgan (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./John Jay Senior) saw the longest duration in the cage, recording 13 saves in 30 minutes of game time.
