DeMilio, Filippelli Named Valiants of the Week for Postseason Efforts

11/5/2024 1:56:00 PM

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Heading into the first week of November, Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) of the Manhattanville University men's cross country team and Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) of the women's tennis team have been named Valiants of the Week, for the week ending Nov. 3.

DeMilio paced the Valiants at the Skyline Championship on Sunday. The sophomore finished 8th amongst the field of 82 runners, setting a new personal best time in the 8K of 27:55.4. DeMilio's effort helped the Valiants claim fourth place in the team standings, Manhattanville's best finish at the conference championship since 2019. DeMilio was awarded a spot on the All-Conference Second Team for his performance at the championship meet, his second time in as many seasons earning the accolade.

Filippelli had a week to remember to close out her first season with Manhattanville. Ahead of the start of the Skyline Championship Tournament on Wednesday, the freshman was announced as the conference's Rookie of the Year for her play during the regular season. Filippelli immediately added to her resume in Wednesday's semifinals against Yeshiva, earning a 6-1 No. 1 Doubles win with Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and leading 6-0, 5-2 in No. 4 Singles when the match concluded. She then helped keep the Valiants alive in Saturday's championship finals against Farmingdale, winning an exhilarating 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 match in the No. 4 flight to extend the contest.
