BOSTON, MA – The Manhattanville University men's and women's track and field teams competed in a two-day event in Boston for the River Hawk Invitational. The Valiants put on an impressive showing with ten members of the men's team competing and four members of the women's team. Â
Manhattanville competed in an array of events throughout the first day. John Castaneda (Howell, N.J./Howell) finished with a time of 7.53 in the 60-meter dash taking 106th place. Luca Perez (Somers, N.Y./Somers) completed the race with 7.76 taking 126th, and Matthew Friday (Bronx, N.Y./AECI Charter) finished just behind him with 8.32 on the timer closing out at 130th place.Â
Aka Udeagha (Rye, N.Y./Rye) took the top spot for the Valiants in the 200-meter with a time of 24.01 taking place 101. Castaneda took 120th place with a time of 24.70 and Mathew Friday finished next for Manhattanville with a finishing time of 27.86 for 133rd place. Â
A few Valiants were the only contenders in certain events as Courtney Brown (Clarendon, Jamaica/Mount Vernon) was the only Valiant to take the track in the 400-meter race finishing with a time of 54.29 for 30th place. Zach Garrant (Poughkeepsie, NY/Spackenkill High School) represented Manhattanville in the 800-meter event, completing the race in 2:08.37. Joey DeMilio (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) took part in the one mile run finishing in 4:44.47.  Darlig Delgado (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore Senior) finished the 3,000-meter in 83rd place with a time of 10:28.99.Â
The relay squad of Brown, Perez, Garrant and Demilio finished the 4x400 relay in 3:49.19, taking 25th place. Â
For field events, Perez secured a 4.91-meter distance in the men's long jump for 51st place. To wrap up the first day of competing, Matt Boggi (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) thew 11.57 meters in the men's shot put, falling in 35th place. Â
With these results for the first day on the men's side, DeMilio hit a personal best in the one-mile event. Udeagha earned his personal best with his efforts in the 200-meter. Perez hit a persona best in the 60-meter dash and Garrant secured his persona best with his time in the 800-meter event. Brown earned himself a season best with his extensive effort in the 400-meter. Â
On the women's side, Zweze Uzoma also took part in the 60-meter dash finishing with a time of 8.50. Jen Schmidt (Williston Park, N.Y./Herricks) finished closely behind with a final time of 8.67. Alicia Bibi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) was the final contender for the event who finished with no time indicated in the results.Â
Uzoma and Bibi competed in the 200-meter dash for Manhattanville. Uzoma finished with 29.52 and Bibi finished with a time of 31.57. Â
Gabrielle Billetz (Clarksburg, Mass./Hoosac Valley) was the only field event contender for Manhattanville throwing 11.50 meters in the women's shot put.Â
Schmidt and Nweze finished back-to-back in the 60-meter dash. Schmidt placed 81st with a time of 8.90. Nweze finished in 82nd place with a time of 8.99. Bibi was the final contender in this event finishing in 88th place in 9.12 seconds. Â
Bibi finished in 146th place in the 200-meter dash in 30.84 seconds and Nweze was geared up to competed but ultimately did not start. Â
Schmidt was the long Valiant to compete in the 400-meter dash finishing in 16th place with a time of 1:08.99. Â
Billetz held down the fort on the field side of the competition. She placed 33rd with a throw of 10.47 meters.Â
With these results on the second day of competition, Bibi earned a season best in both the 60-meter and 200-meter events. Â
The Valiants return to action in two weeks' time to compete at the Big Apple Invitational.Â
