PURCHASE, N.Y. – Adrianna Filippelli (Mastic, N.Y./William Floyd) was named Skyline Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Year while the sophomore and three other teammates from the Manhattanville University women's tennis team earned All-Conference distinctions, as announced on Wednesday morning.
Filippelli was also named to the All-Conference First Team, where she was joined by
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) and
Addison Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services).
Jenifer Lalman (Schenectady, N.Y./Schenectady) also earned All-Conference nods after her stellar rookie campaign, representing the Valiants on the Second Team.
Filippelli is the fifth player in program history to earn Skyline Conference Player of the Year recognition, the first since Bea Pretnar won the award her senior season in 2023. After being named the Skyline's Rookie of the Year last season, Filippelli's sophomore regular season was just as impressive as her debut. Splitting time between the top-two flights, Filippelli finished the regular season 8-2 in singles play. After opening the year with back-to-back No. 2 wins, she moved up to the top flight on Sept. 27 and remained there for the rest of the season, going 6-2 in No. 1 action and finishing 6-1 against the Skyline. In doubles, Filippelli went a perfect 10-0, winning all three of her draws in the No. 1 position while racking up seven more wins in No. 2s. She has now made the All-Conference First Team in both of her first two seasons.
Amaya Ortiz (Bronx, N.Y./High School for Health Professions and Human Services) went 9-1 in singles action, going 8-0 in No. 2s after opening the season with a pair of matches in the top flight. She finished 7-0 in singles play against the Skyline Conference. Ortiz occupied the No. 1 position in doubles action during the entire season, going 9-1 with two different partners over the course of the year. Like in singles, she went undefeated in doubles against the Skyline, and enters the postseason with seven-straight doubles victories dating back to Sept. 27. Ortiz is also two-for-two in appearances on the All-Conference First Team after earning the accolade last year as a sophomore in her first year with Manhattanville.
Amaya's sister Addison made the First Team for the third-straight year as Manhattanville's primary No. 3. Ortiz went 9-1 in singles play, winning her lone venture into No. 2s against Drew on Oct. 4 while winning eight more decisions in the No. 3 position. Ortiz went 6-1 in solos against the Skyline Conference. She primarily played doubles alongside Filippelli in No. 2s, but teamed up with Lalman for a pair of contests. Ortiz finished the regular season with a 9-1 doubles mark, winning all but one Skyline tilt.
Lalman continued the tennis team's recent success of standout rookies as the freshman went undefeated in her singles debuts. Lalman won all ten solo matches she played, with nine coming in the No. 4 spot while also earning the win in her No. 3s debut against Drew on Oct. 4. In doubles play, Lalman went 7-3 across the No. 1 and No. 2 flights. She posted a 6-1 mark against Skyline teams, and has won four-straight No. 1 Doubles matchups entering the postseason.
The Valiants will look to continue the strong season this afternoon as the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament gets underway with the second-seeded Valiants hosting No. 3 Saint Joseph's Long Island at 3:30 p.m.
