LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville University men's golf team hosted its first invitational since April 2024 on Wednesday as the Valiants welcomed Skyline Conference foes Mount Saint Mary, Old Westbury and Yeshiva to the Links at Union Vale on a picture-perfect day on the course.
Returning to the par 72, 6,526 yard course up north, the Valiants shot a team score of 342 (+54) to finish fourth. Manhattanville had seven total golfers on the green on the day, also serving as the team's Senior Day celebration for
Corey Popowcer (Parkland, Fla./Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) and
Justin Fernet (Sherbrooke, Quebec/Taft School).
Popowcer was the Valiants' top performer on the day, shooting an 81 (+9) to finish tied for third overall with Old Westbury's Mike Tuzzolo. Popowcer sunk birdies on holes 6, 10, 13 and 5 while adding three pars to his total.
Fernet joined his classmate in the top ten as he finished in a three-way tie for 7
th alongside Ruslan Makarenko of Mount Saint Mary and Matthew Lee of Old Westbury, all shooting an 84 (+12). Fernet hit par on eight holes, four each across the front and back nine.
Liam Parker (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) took 15
th with an 87 (+15). The junior birdied hole six and shot par on four other holes.
William Billequey (Montreal, Quebec/Vermont Lumberjacks (EHL)) rounded out the scoring foursome with a round of 90 (+18), finishing with four pars. He finished tied for 16
th alongside Yeshiva's Moshe Keiser.
Tyler Rolston (Newport, Pa./P.A.L Jr. Islanders (NCDC)) placed 18
th with a score of 92 (+20), sinking five pars across the front nine.
Ryan McKenna (Spokane, Wash./Sheridan Hawks (NA3HL)) and
Johno Hoins (Telluride, Colo./The Frederick Gunn School / Notre Dame Hounds (SJHL)) were also in action as individual competitors, both shooting 93 (+21). McKenna sunk three pars in his trip around the course, while Hoins birdied hole two and added four pars.
Mount Saint Mary's Charlie Bezold finished as the day's individual champ, shooting 78 (+6). With Bezold leading the way and all five competitors finishing in the top ten, Mount Saint Mary also claimed the team title with a score of 329 (+41).
Old Westbury claimed second with a score of 336 (+48), while Yeshiva's 338 (+50) took third.
