OWINGS MILLS, Md.
– The Manhattanville field hockey team is now on a three-game winning streak, as just 24 hours after defeating Wilkes University at home, the Valiants traveled down to Maryland and defeated Stevenson University, 4-2, in a non-conference match at the Caves Athletics Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Valiant offense continued to come from four consistent players over the past week, as juniors Alyssa Coughlan (Rye, N.Y.) and Alyssa Nardone (Closter, N.J.), sophomore Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa.), and freshman Megan Greene (Jamestown, R.I.) all scored to give the Valiants their sixth victory of the season and third in a row.

The contest was evenly matched, as both teams were within a single shot of each other, but the Valiants held the edge in overall shots, 18-17 and shots on target, 12-11. The Valiants finished the game with a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners and were successful on their second goal of the game.

Manhattanville got on the board early for the third straight game in the fifth minute, as Coughlan scored her fifth goal of the season after dribbling around defenders to beat Stevenson's netminder Kara Zimmerman and give the Valiants a 1-0 lead.

In the ninth minute, the Valiants took a 2-0 lead, after Zimmerman saved a shot taken by Coughlan that was then put away by Nardone on the rebound for her fourth of the season. The Mustangs got a goal late in the first half to cut their deficit to 2-1 as Brittney Martin redirected a Kaitlyn May shot from the top of the circle. Manhattanville ended the half firing 13 shots with eight on target.

Stevenson tied the game in the 62nd minute as this time Martin took a shot from outside the circle, but May redirected it past Manhattanville freshman goalie Melissa Grant (Hampton, N.H.) to make it a 2-2 game. The Valiants needed just 1:53 to regain the lead for the final time, however, as Meenan redirected a shot from Greene to put the visitors back on top by a 3-2 score.

Trailing by a goal, the Mustangs called a timeout with just over four minutes remaining, but it backfired as Greene scored an insurance goal with 2:45 remaining in regulation. With the tally, it gives Greene the team lead in goals with six, as the Junior Olympian took a blast from inside the circle giving the visiting team a two-goal cushion.

Grant finished the game with nine saves for her fifth victory of the season, while Zimmerman made eight saves in the loss.

Manhattanville (6-7, 1-2 Freedom) will return home to take on Western Connecticut State University in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening from GoValiants.com Field at 7 p.m. Live stats and a live video broadcast will be available for all fans on their computers via GoValiants.com and GoValiants.TV beginning at 6:55 p.m. Stevenson (6-8, 1-3 Capital) will head to Frostburg State on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m.
