DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – A second-half goal by the host Delaware Valley Aggies ended the Manhattanville field hockey team's four-game winning streak by a score of 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies scored first in the 28th minute as Danni Heller scored her third goal of the season. But the Valiants answered back one minute later, as sophomore Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa.) scored her seventh-goal of the season with an assist from junior Alyssa Nardone (Closter, N.J.).
The Aggies took the lead for good in the 57th minute, when Marissa Di Miero found Rony Jacober for her 11th goal of the season. The Valiants outshot Delaware Valley in the second half, 6-2, but keeper Hollis Hancock helped her team escape with the win by making four saves in the final stanza.
The Valiants finished the contest with a big 15-5 edge in shots, but could not find the net in the second half. The visiting team also finished with a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners, but Hancock finished with 11 saves to keep her team ahead. Manhattanville's freshman netminder Melissa Grant (Hampton, N.H.) made three saves in the loss.
Manhattanville (7-8, 1-3 Freedom) will head to DeSales University for a Freedom Conference match on Wednesday starting at 4 p.m. Delaware Valley (8-8, 2-2 Freedom) will travel to Misericordia on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start.
