Western New England Blanks Manhattanville 2-0

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. –
The Manhattanville field hockey team had trouble putting the ball in the back of the net, as the Valiants fell to Western New England College by a 2-0 score on Wednesday evening at Golden Bear Stadium.

 

The Golden Bears scored goals in each half, as the hosts outshot the Valiants, 18-13, and posted a 20-4 cushion on penalty corners. WNEC got on the board in the 29th minute as Lindsay Lalonde scored off a penalty corner with Shelby Van Huysen. The Golden Bears added an insurance goal in the 65th minute when Erin Griffin found Katharyn Vogl inside the box to give the host a 2-0 lead.

 

Manhattanville netminder Melissa Grant (Hampton, N.H.) made eight saves in a losing effort, while Brittney O'Brien made 10 saves in the victory.

 

Manhattanville (3-6, 0-1 Freedom) will head home for a Freedom Conference match against ninth-ranked Eastern University on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. Fans can catch the live action on GoValiants.TV and follow along with live stats on GoValiants.com.
