Field Hockey Falls on the Road to Eastern, 4-1

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.
– On Saturday afternoon the Manhattanville field hockey team traveled to St. David's Pa. to take on conference opponent Eastern and fell by the score of 4-1 as Eastern scored three times in the second half.

The Valiants got off to a fast start with two shots in the first two minutes of the contest by sophomores Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and Megan Greene (Jamestown, R.I./North Kingstown). From there Eastern began to take control taking the next four shots, three from Jess Jaindl.

The two sides remained scoreless until the 25:32 point when Sarah Webb scored off of a penalty corner to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. The score remained the same until the end of the first period with the Valiants down the lone tally.

Soon after the second half began DeChent was able to tie the score on a pass from classmate Alyssa Tourdot (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) after a penalty corner. The score was even for only a short amount of time as Eastern answered quickly scoring less than eight minutes later to regain the one-goal advantage.

Abby Wagner put one past Manhattanville sophomore goalkeeper Amy Hilton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)) to expand the lead at the 63:44 point, the Eagles put the game out of reach six minutes later when they scored their fourth goal of the game in the final minute off of a penalty corner.

In goal Hilton tied a season high with eight saves while allowing the four goals as her record drops to 10-4 on the season. Picking up the win was Sara Blaylock who moves to 2-1 on the year while not making a save and allowing the lone DeChent tally.

Shots were well in favor of the Eagles as they took 18 to Manhattanville's six, 13 on goal for Eastern to the Valiants' one. Penalty corners were also favor of the home team at a 15-7 margin.

Manhattanville (10-4, 2-2 Freedom) will be back in action this Wednesday when they host DeSales at 4:00 p.m. with game coverage available on GoValiants.TV. Eastern (7-7, 4-0 Freedom) will also be back in Freedom Conference play on Wednesday as they travel to take on FDU-Florham at 7:00 p.m.
