Valiants Fall in Regular Season Finale to No. 4 TCNJ

. – The Manhattanville field hockey team fell in their regular season finale to the NFHCA No. 4 College of New Jersey Lions on Thursday evening by the score of 7-1. The game was a make-up from the early September postponement earlier this season.

The Lions took early control of the game taking five shots during the first 7:07 of the contest. On their sixth shot at 10:23 the Lions took the 1-0 lead on a goal that was tipped in off a deflection past sophomore goalkeeper Amy Hilton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)).

Just over two minutes later TCNJ struck again as Caitlyn Jenkins scored her second of the game. After falling behind 3-0 the Valiants finally got their offense going off of a penalty corner taken by junior Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent), the ensuing shot taken by senior Alyssa Nardone (Closter, N.J./Northern Valley Regional Demarest) made it into the back of the goal to trim the lead to 3-1.

Four minutes later, TCNJ got the three-goal lead right back when Camille Passucci received a pass from Jenkins to expand the Lions' lead. They took the 4-1 lead into the halftime break, allowing just two shots through the first 35 minutes.

After the break the Valiants conceded a quick goal within the first five minutes of the half to fall behind 5-1 which was followed by the third of the game by Passucci at the 50:36 mark of the game. The Lions scored twice more in the second half to earn the 7-1 win over Manhattanville.

In the losing effort, Hilton made five saves while allowing the seven goals to TCNJ. Collecting the win for the Lions was Shannon Syrciarz who turned away one shot while allowing the lone Nardone goal, backup keeper Amanda Krause came on for the final 14:18 of the game and did not face any opposing chances.

In terms of shots the Valiants were outshot by a large margin at 29-2, while shots on goal were 12-2. Penalty corners were also in favor of TCNJ at an 18-2 differential.

Manhattanville (11-7, 4-3 Freedom) will return to the field when they travel to take on the FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference Championship semi-finals at 7:00 p.m. TCNJ (17-2, 6-0 NJAC) will play their final regular season game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Cortland State.
