KINGSTON
, Pa. – The Manhattanville men's tennis team snapped its two-match losing streak and returned to form on Saturday afternoon at the Kingston Indoor Courts, as the Valiants easily disposed of Misericordia University by a 9-0 score in a Freedom Conference matchup.

The match had to be moved indoors due to inclement weather in the region, but that did little to slow down the Valiants. No singles or doubles entry lost more than five total games on the afternoon as all six Manhattanville entries were double winners on the day.

In singles play, junior Dean Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) and freshman Gabriel Pinto (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Internacional SEK-Ecuador) had the easiest time in their respective matches, defeating their opponents by the same 6-0, 6-1 score. Tahir took down Frank Nutt at second singles, while Pinto defeated Justin Muthler at the fourth flight.

A trio of Valiants dropped just three games in singles play – senior Chris Lin (White Plains, N.Y./Eastchester), junior Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) and sophomore Andres Rivera. Lin took down Kyle Capozzi at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-2, while Rivera won his fifth-singles match with Matt Erney by the same score. At the top flight, Manhattanville's Capozzi reversed the scores in a 6-2, 6-1 win over Fred Hockenbury.

Rounding out the singles winners, sophomore Karim Mahmoud (Cairo, Egypt/Nefertari American International School) posted a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Brett Ford at third singles.

The doubles contests earlier in the day provided little drama for Manhattanville as well, as no tandem lost more than three games. Mahmoud and Lin led the way with an 8-1 win over Capozzi and Nate Powers, followed by Manhattanville's Capozzi and Pinto defeating Nutt and Ford, 8-2, and Tahir and Rivera downing Muthler and Hockenbury, 8-3.

Manhattanville (7-4, 3-1 Freedom), which locked up second place in the Freedom Conference with the win, will close out the conference regular season on Wednesday at FDU-Florham starting at 3:30 p.m. in Madison.
