PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's soccer team fell to Trinity (Conn.) College on Wednesday evening in a non-conference matchup at GoValiants.com Field by a score of 4-0.
The Valiant defense held the Bantams off the board in the first half as Jessica Kehoe (Kemptville, Ont./St. Michael Catholic), Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill), Lauren Schobel (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Lakeland) and Kristina Ciotto (West Hartford, Conn./Northwest Catholic) made a series of key blocks of the 13 shots Trinity took. Four shots that made it through the defense were stopped by freshman goalkeeper Bridget Miranda (Binghamton, N.Y./Seton Catholic Central).
After the intermission the Trinity offense found several openings in the back line, with the first coming 19 seconds into the period. Leigh Howard crossed a pass to Elisa Dolan and she found the back of the net to open the scoring in the contest.
Katie Giberson, Howard and Samantha Metcalf each tallied goals as part of the five shots on goal for Trinity in the second half. For Metcalf it was her first career goal that capped off the scoring at 71:01 to give the Bantams the 4-0 edge.
In goal, Miranda took the loss, making five saves along the way. Lily Pepper started the game for Trinity and made one save before making way for Midge Daniel who took over after halftime. Daniel picked up her first career win making one save in the winning effort.
Manhattanville (0-6-0) will be back in action this Saturday when they take on the Skidmore Thoroughbreds at 4:00 p.m. from GoValiants.com Field, and the game can be seen live on GoValiants.TV beginning with the pre-game show at 3:55 p.m.. Trinity (2-0-0) will return home to take on Oneonta State on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
