NEW LONDON, Conn. –
The Manhattanville men's tennis team continued to play top competition during the fall season on Saturday, as the Valiants took part in the four-team Connecticut College/Coast Guard Individual Tournament along with the host Camels and Bears as well as Roger Williams.

Saturday's event was a tournament format, with one entry from all four teams taking part in semifinal, final and consolation matches at eight singles flights and all three doubles flights. Valiant entries won four matches on the afternoon, including finals appearances from sophomores Gabriel Pinto (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Internacional SEK-Ecuador) and Alfonso Hidrobo (Quito, Ecuador/Academia Cotopoxi).

At third singles, Pinto came the closest to pulling out an individual title for Manhattanville. He got the best of Jason Pacino from Roger Williams in the semifinal round, 6-4, 6-3, and then took the first set from Coast Guard's Josh Fischer, but Fischer rebounded to take the second set, 6-4, and 10-5 in the deciding super-tiebreaker.

Hidrobo also made it to the finals of the fourth-singles bracket, cruising to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Roger Williams' Taylor Webster in the semifinal round before falling to Coast Guard's Chris Hoffman, 6-4, 6-3, in the finals.

Senior Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) was a part of Manhattanville's two other wins of the day, winning once at first singles and first doubles. After falling to Jeff Weisberger of Connecticut College in the first-singles semifinals, he rebounded to take down the Hawks' Kevin Erikson, 6-4, 6-1, in the consolation round. He followed the same route at first doubles alongside Pinto, as the pair came up just short in a 9-7 loss to Hoffman and Blake Maurer of Coast Guard but roared back to shut out Erikson and Webster of Roger Williams, 8-0.

Manhattanville will continue the individual circuit next weekend, when the team travels to Newburgh for the Mount Saint Mary Fall Invitational on September 24-25.
