Meenan Scores Twice in 3-2 Loss to Delaware Valley

Box Score DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Manhattanville field hockey team fell on the road to the Delaware Valley Aggies on Saturday afternoon by the score of 3-2. The Valiants got two goals from senior Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) in the second half to tie the game before the Aggies scored with less than two minutes to go to come away with the victory.

Delaware Valley scored the lone goal of the first half and took their lead into halftime. After the break they opened up a 2-0 lead using their home turf to their advantage.

Meenan then scored two goals for the Valiants on assists from classmate Melissa Goncalves (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East), then from junior Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) to tie the game at two apiece.

The two goals places Meenan into a second place tie on the all-time points list with Kristen Coffey '04 with 98 points each. In terms of career goals Meenan now has 38 as she inches two closer to all-time leader DeChent, who currently has 40 career goals

With less than two minutes remaining the Aggies scored as they snuck one past junior goalkeeper Amy Hilton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)) to take a 3-2 lead, and went on to hold off the Valiants for the win.

While the loss hurts the Valiants in terms of conference standings, they are not yet eliminated from playoff contention as the FDU-Devils lost to the Eastern Eagles today by the score of 6-2, dropping the Devils into a tie for third place with the Aggies. With a Manhattanville win over FDU-Florham on Tuesday evening, the Valiants will clinch the fourth and final playoff berth no matter what happens with the outcome of the Delaware Valley-Eastern game on Tuesday.

Manhattanville (11-6, 3-3 Freedom) finishes off their conference schedule on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. when they travel to Madison, N.J. for the key matchup with the aforementioned Devils. Delaware Valley (7-9, 4-2 Freedom) wraps-up their conference slate with a matchup against Eastern on Tuesday; the matchup will determine the second and third seeds in the Freedom Championship.
