PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville field hockey team will be joining the fight against cancer on the evening of Wednesday, October 10 when they host “Play 4 the Cure” against Western Connecticut State at 7:00 p.m.
The month of October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month of the National Susan G. Komen Foundation. Breast cancer affects about one in eight women in the United States, while more than one in four cancers in women are breast cancer.
The Susan G. Komen Foundation in a non-profit organization that raises over $35 million a year for cancer research as well as educating women about the proper screening techniques. The foundation advocates for breast self-awareness as a primary method for fighting breast cancer.
Play 4 the Cure was created by Mystx Field Hockey Club founder, director and head coach Tina Reinprecht whose longtime desire was to create an indoor field hockey benefit tournament for breast cancer research. To raise awareness the Valiant field hockey team will be wearing pink uniforms and play their contest with pink field hockey balls.
In addition to their on-field awareness the team will also be fundraising by selling bracelets for $1 each and will be accepting donations throughout the contest. If you are unable to make it to the contest you can visit
