ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Despite not playing at full strength, the Manhattanville men's tennis team earned its third straight victory by gutting out a 6-3 win over Eastern in a Freedom Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the EU Tennis Courts.

Due to injuries, Manhattanville was playing with just four regulars against the Eagles. However, those four players combined to earn four singles wins and take part in two doubles victories as the Valiants remained unbeaten in conference play.

The senior tandem of Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) and Dean Tahir (Yonkers, N.Y./Saunders) were particularly effective at the top of the Valiant lineup, as the two players paired up for a first-doubles win and then posted singles victories at the first and second flights, respectively. The duo started their day with an 8-3 doubles win over Tyler Hoagland and Jonny Shenk. Capozzi followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Hoagland again, while Tahir took care of Tyler Schultz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

Graduate student Chris Lin (White Plains, N.Y./Eastchester) also posted a pair of wins on the day for Manhattanville, as he teamed with senior Joe House (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) for an 8-5 win at third doubles over Herschel Dube and Codie Todd before taking down Shenk, 6-1, 6-4, in third-singles action.

Freshman Gabriel Berlingeri (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Colegio San Ignacio de Loyola) also earned a singles point for the Valiants as well in fourth-singles play, defeating Dube by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

Manhattanville (3-4, 3-0 Freedom) will travel to non-conference foe NYU on Wednesday night for an 8 p.m. match. Eastern (5-6, 0-3 Freedom) will take on non-conference Cabrini also on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
