WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The shorthanded Manhattanville team dropped its final match of the regular season on Saturday afternoon, falling to King's (Pa.) by a 7-2 score at Kirby Park.

With the loss, Manhattanville (3-8, 3-2 Freedom) falls to third place in the Freedom Conference at the conclusion of the regular season, meaning that the Valiants will have to travel back to Pennsylvania on Wednesday for a return engagement with the Monarchs in the Freedom Conference semifinals beginning at 3:30 p.m.

The Valiants were behind the eight ball from the start against the Monarchs, as the Valiants brought just five players to Kirby Park for the match. As a result, the visitors were forced to cede the sixth-singles and third-doubles points without a fight.

Manhattanville split the two contested doubles matches, as junior Andres Rivera-Hurtado (San Juan, Puerto Rico/American Military Academy) and graduate student Chris Lin (White Plains, N.Y./Eastchester) took down Tony Bevevino and Jake Roaring by an 8-6 score at the second-doubles flight.

Senior Michael Capozzi (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/San Judas Tadeo) was the lone Valiant to come out on top in singles play, however, as the Monarchs took the remaining four singles matches to complete the win. Capozzi came back from a 6-3 first-set loss to take the second, 6-3, and the third, 6-2, for an impressive win over Chris Cozzillio. With the win, Capozzi completes his career with a stellar 22-1 record in singles play against Freedom Conference competition.

Rivera and Lin both came a break short in both sets of their respective singles matches, as Rivera fell to Tim Carroll at second singles by a 7-5, 6-4 score and Lin lost by the same score to Bevevino at third singles.
