PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville women's tennis team dropped its second straight Freedom Conference matchup to visiting FDU-Florham on Thursday afternoon, falling by a 7-2 score at the Manhattanville Courts.
The Valiants picked up one win in both singles and doubles play, but it was not enough to pull out a victory in the second conference match of the year for both teams.
A pair of Valiants earned their first collegiate victories on the day, as freshman
Giovanna Lamorte (/) took out Lindsey Martin at sixth singles, 6-1, 6-4, while freshman
Kirsten Shaughnessy (Le Center, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson St. Peter) teamed with junior
Kirstin Hallett (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill) for a hard-fought 9-8 (7-5) win at second doubles over Marcie Schlanger and Kristen Lefkus.
Shaughnessy also came up just short of her first career singles win as well, as she took the first set of her fifth-singles match with Michelle Berkenstock, 6-3, but came up short in the second set, 6-4, and dropped the supertiebreaker by a 10-6 margin.
Manhattanville (1-5, 0-2 Freedom) will not be back to action until next Saturday, when the Valiants travel to Eastern for a Freedom Conference match starting at 1 p.m. FDU-Florham (2-9, 1-1 Freedom) will also wait until nine days before returning to the courts to take on Misericordia beginning at 1 p.m.
