Box Score HOBOKEN, N.J. – Junior
Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) scored a pair of goals and freshman
Sharon Konfederak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/The Washington School) scored her first career goal, but it wasn't enough as the Manhattanville field hockey team dropped their second game of the season to the Stevens Ducks by the score of 6-3 on Saturday afternoon.
Early on in the contest the two sides exchanged shots evenly, until Stevens had a minute-long stretch in which they were able to rattle off three shots during the run. On the third shot Dailyn Brook was able to get one past Manhattanville freshman netminder
Courtney Ponte (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown), who was making her collegiate debut, to put the Ducks up by a score of 1-0.
DeChent came back and had a stretch of her own where she sent three shots in the direction of the Stevens' cage and on the third shot was able to capitalize on her first tally of the season after receiving a pass from senior
Sarah Mason (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls).
Stevens then went on another stretch in which they sent six shots in the Valiants direction, with the sixth one making it past Ponte to make the score 2-1 in favor of the home side. DeChent tried to follow up with a goal as she did last time but was stopped twice by Kaitlin McClymont. Seven minutes later, the Ducks came back down the field and added to their lead to make the score 3-1.
Manhattanville held off another rush by Stevens late in the period and headed into the locker room down by a pair at the intermission.
Just over a minute into the second half, Stevens tallied once again to go up by three. The deficit sparked the Valiant offense as they came back down the field less than four minutes later as Konfederak notched her first career goal to trim the lead in half at 4-2. Konfederak got in on the action several minutes later as she sent a pass to DeChent who shot the ball home to pull Manhattanville back within one.
The Ducks went on to take the next six shots during the action, with two of the shots finding the back of the net as they ballooned their lead up to the 6-3 with just under 14 minutes remaining in regulation. DeChent tried to will her team back into the game by taking the next three shots of the contest herself, followed by one from senior
Kayla Meenan (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent). All four shots were unsuccessful as the time had expired to give Stevens the victory.
In the game Stevens outshot Manhattanville by a 33-17 margin, while also leading in terms of penalty corners by a 17-6 difference.
Earning the victory in goal was McClymont (1-1) who made six saves, all on DeChent, for her first win of the season. Taking the loss was Ponte (0-1) who made 15 saves in the losing effort, while yielding the six Ducks' tallies in the contest.
Manhattanville (1-1) will return to action this Tuesday when they open the home portion of their schedule at 4:00 p.m. when they host the Mercy Mavericks with live coverage of the game available on GoValiants.TV.
