DeChent, Hilton Help the Valiants Blow Past Eastern Connecticut 4-0

Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. - The stellar play of seniors Amanda DeChent (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and Amy Hilton (Pittsburgh, Pa./Kents Hill (Maine)) helped the Manhattanville field hockey team win their fourth straight game by defeating Eastern Connecticut State 4-0 on Wednesday.

The two players made big impacts on opposite sides of the field on Wednesday. DeChent played a role in all four Valiant tallies, scoring three times and adding an assist for a seven-point day, while Hilton made 10 saves to pick up her first shutout of the season and fifth of her career.

Both teams came out firing in the first half of play, but it was Manhattanville that would later gain the edge. The game was even on both sides until the 22nd minute when DeChent played a pass from senior Kirsten Savage (Harrington Park, N.J./Old Tappan) at the middle of the arc to beat Warriors senior goalkeeper Samantha Scavo low for the score.

It wouldn't take much longer for the DeChent show to continue. It only took three more minutes for the All-American to bury a goal in the 25th minute off a pass from sophomore Sharon Konfederak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/The Washington School), giving the Valiants a 2-0 lead.

DeChent wasn't done there. A direct corner awarded to the Valiants in the 33rd minute allowed sophomore Rylee McGuire (Grantham, N.H./Lebanon) to connect with DeChent at the top of the arc to put it home for a hat trick.

The Valiants took a comfortable 3-0 lead into half time and wouldn't have to look back.

Manhattanville scored the only goal in the second half after McGuire redirected a pass from DeChent into the back of the net. DeChent finished the day with three goals and an assist, tallying a total of seven points.

The offensive effort would have been nothing without the tremendous play of Hilton for Manhattanville. The senior netminder contributed 10 saves on a total of 14 Eastern Connecticut State shots.

Manhattanville only had four more shots in the match, totaling 18 for the day. Those four shots became the difference as the Valiants edged the Warriors 4-0.

Manhattanville will play next against #9 William Smith at noon on Saturday at the annual William Smith Classic in Geneva, N.Y.
