Nicolich Scores Twice as Women's Soccer Cruises Past John Jay

Sophomore Quinn Nicolich was one of three Valiants to score their first career goal on Saturday.
Box Score PURCHASE, N.Y. – Sophomore Quinn Nicolich (Salt Lake City, Utah/Judge Memorial Catholic) was the latest Valiant to score the first two goals of her career, and this time it came in a victory as Manhattanville cruised past John Jay, 4-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at GoValiants.com Field.

Nicolich was part of the Manhattanville attack that posted a 23-1 edge in shots against the Bloodhounds, but she was not the only Valiant to have a good day. Sophomore Dani Sullivan (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) scored the first goal of her career and added two assists for a four-point day. Classmate Alina Callo (Manchester, Vt./Long Trail School) also found the back of the net for the first time, while freshman Kerri Durkin (Mahopac, N.Y./John F. Kennedy Catholic) followed up her two goals Wednesday with a pair of assists on Saturday.

The first half was all Manhattanville, with the home team posting an 11-0 edge in shots. And yet, it was a still a close game at the break thanks to the Valiants only finding the net once. That honor went to Sullivan, who headed home a free kick by Durkin at the top of the six-yard box to make it 1-0 in the 19th minute.

Manhattanville started to execute more efficiently on offense in the second half, scoring three times to break the match open. Callo doubled the Valiant lead 3:14 into the second half, getting to a loose ball inside the box and redirecting it past Andrea Antoni for an unassisted tally. Later in the half Nicolich was able to strike not once but twice, tapping home a pass across the box from Sullivan in the 71st minute and then booting home the rebound of a Sullivan shot in the 73rd minute.

Freshman Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) did not need to make a save on the day but still was credited with her third win of the season.

Manhattanville (3-7)  will have its final tuneup before the start of conference play on Wednesday afternoon, as the Valiants travel to Ramapo for a 4 p.m. contest.
