POMPTON PLAINS, N.J. – Led by a season-best round from senior
Sydney Asselstine (Hartington, Ontario/Sydenham), the Manhattanville College women's golf team took four of the top five spots to easily defeat FDU-Florham by the score of 384-477 in a dual match on Wednesday afternoon at the par-71 Sunset Valley Golf Course.
Asselstine led the Valiants with a round of 90, giving her individual medalist honors for the second time in her career and first since carding her career-low round of 88 at Elmira last season. For Manhattanville, the round of 384 is the team's lowest of the season and the second-lowest in the program's brief history, surpassed only by the round of 379 at the 2013 Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
Junior
Isabel Martinez (Quito, Ecuador/Colegio Americano) took second place individually with a round of 93, followed by classmate
Gabriela Estevez (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) in fourth place after carding a 95 on the wet course. Sophomore
Maria Perez (Barranquilla, Columbia/Maria Sunset Senior) rounded out the Valiant quartet with a round of 103, earning her fifth place.
Jordan Durham was the only player to prevent a Valiant sweep of the top-four spots, carding a round of 95 to finish third for FDU-Florham.
Manhattanville will close out the fall portion of its 2014-15 schedule this weekend, when the Valiants take part in the two-day Kutztown Fall Invitational.
